Tempe Town Lake Will Light Up the Sky this 4th of July!

June 30th, 2008 · No Comments · Summer

This Friday the great U.S. of A. will be another year older and, we can all only hope, wiser too. The 4th of July is a special time for the people of our nation to reflect back on the magnificent opportunities and blessings we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America. Maybe I’m the only one that finds it ironic that the best university on the planet possesses the same letters in it’s abbreviation as the best country in the world.

So the real question is, for those of us ASU students that are still around the Tempe area for the summer, what does ASU have to offer for the 4th of July? The answer is simply, “Tempe Town Lake!” One of the biggest 4th of July celebrations in the country takes place right here in our own town. The show kicks off at 4:00pm and ends with the big shabang I heard around 11:00pm. Around that time the sky will be lit with a beautiful arrar of color and wonder. The picture to the right is just a glimpse of what you can expect. I didn’t want to give away the grande finale before the actual event. At any rate, the show should be amazing as it always is. However, fireworks will not be the only hot happening on this fourth of July evening. The venue will offer games, food, rock climbing walls, and just about anything else you could possibly want in order to enjoy a great time by the lake with family and friends and community on this special day, the birthday of our nation.

Anyway, so that’s the scoop. Tempe Town Lake is the place to be this weekend. With the lights, sounds, and undoubtedly good conversations with great people that are sure to occur, I don’t think you can go wrong. So take your date, find one if you don’t have one (I mean we are at ASU “where the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano”), and head out to Tempe Town Lake for the 4th of July shin dig. As for me, I’m expected to be back home for the weekend with family so unfortunately I probably won’t make it. However, since the “Tempe 4th” is broadcasted on Live Television, I might still be able to enjoy it from the comfort of my home in St. Johns AZ. Maybe I’ll see some of you on TV if you’re there!

Wherever you choose to be on this epic occasion that happens only once a year, I hope we all remember the real reason we celebrate the 4th of July. It is my wish that we all pay tribute to our founding fathers and the tremendous courage they took in fighting for our nation’s freedom, the unparalled inspiration they offered in establishing the constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights, and above all the loving trust in God they had to found a nation built upon the rights of religious freedom and liberty from all forms of tyranny. As proud as I am to be a part of ASU, Tempe, and this wonderful community, I am much more grateful to be a member of the USA. God Bless the red, white, and blue….and the “maroon and gold.”:)
