Arizona State Cheerleaders – Sparky’s Crew

July 15th, 2008 · 5 Comments · Sports

“NO cheer squad next year at ANY football, basketball or other sporting event games. The only form of “cheer squad” that will remain is the megaphones and signs. Which will not be called the cheerleaders, but instead “Sparky’s Crew.”

This a statement by ASU’s athletic director, Lisa Love, back in the first part of May 2008. The ASU cheer squad has been cut from the athletic program and will not return this coming school year… Read More

ASU Football Team Gears Up for a Successful Season

July 14th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Sports

It was a dark and rainy Sunday here in Tempe. Yes, the weather’s changing and the monsoons are upon us. This can only mean one thing, ASU football is just around the corner! The Sundevil football team is coming off one of there best seasons in recent history this past year and are gearing up to take the ball even further this time around. The team has most of their starting line up coming back from last year including senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter, senior running back Keegan Herring, and junior wide receiver Chris MacGaha… Read More

Hoodlums Looks to Stay in “Da Hood”

June 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Construction

The music was fading fast for, in my opinion, the best music store in the history of the planet. Hoodlums, the well known ASU music store, previously located in the basement of ASU’s Memorial Union, has been closed for business since the November fires. Fortunately, the beat’s coming back and the owners, Steve and Kristian, are currently trying to lock down an optimal location here in Tempe hopefully within close proximity of the ASU campus…Read More

ASU “Goes Green” with New Memorial Union Renovations

June 23rd, 2008 · No Comments · Construction

Yes, our school colors are still maroon and gold but this fall semester the MU will be encouraging a more “environmentally friendly” atmosphere by going green. If you’ve happened to pass by the Memorial Union building this summer you’ll have noticed the long line of chain-link fences encompassing the structure. About a month ago I walked by at night and the construction crew was busy at work trying to finish up the newly renovated stairwells and outside patio area (I guess it’s a little warm to be engaging in too much hard physical labor during the scorching summer days here in Tempe so they tend to do most of their damage during the night hours when there is less susceptibility to UV exposure and skin damage). At any rate, the “NEW MU” (kind of has a catchy tone to it huh?) will be in full service come next fall for ASU students…Read More

Jacquelyn Johnson Brings Back Memories of 1985!

June 19th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Sports

They share the same first name, dominate the same sport, and have now won the same award. Jacquelyn Johnson of ASU has been crushing the competition in track and field since she was in high school and is striving to follow the footsteps of the great Jackie Joyner. I actually believe I might have even seen her compete at a few track meets back then. She attended high school in Yuma AZ before joining our stellar team here at ASU. Jacquelyn Johnson has been awarded the Honda Sports Award for Track and Field. She was voted the top female college track and field athlete in the nation. This is the same award that female athlete/icon Jackie Joyner-Kersee won back in 1983 and 1985. Jackie holds records in the heptathlon and pentathlon and is supposedly ranked first amongst all American female athletes in these events. We’re very proud of her as well as all of the members of our track and field teams both men and women. They both won national indoor championship titles and the women have won the last two indoor championships as well as the outdoors in 2007.
