Sundevil Softball’s Katelyn Boyd Earns Top Honors

Sun Devil Softball senior Katelyn Boyd keeps racking up the awards! Boyd has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of April 23rd-29th.  This is Boyd’s fourth career conference weekly honor and ASU’s 69th. Over the weekend against No. 11 Washington, Boyd hit her second grand slam of the season to help the Sun Devils sweep the Huskies. It was the Sun Devils fourth sweep in conference play. The Sun Devils return to Farrington stadium to host Utah Friday, May 4th through Sunday, May 6th in the regular-season home series finale that will feature several promotions. Senior day is at noon on Sunday, come out and support your seniors in their final Pac-12 game!

Starting Friday night the first 100 fans to come through the gates each day of the Utah series will receive a 2011 National Championship commemorative ticket autographed by the Sun Devil softball team. In addition, Sun Devil Softball is teaming up with Helen’s Hope Chest to collect donations. Helen’s Hope Chest helps foster children with their basic needs such as clothing, school supplies, books and toys. Helen’s Hope Chest will have a table set up at Farrington Stadium to accept items throughout the weekend as the Sun Devils take the Utes. Congratulations to Sun Devil Baseball pitcher Trevor Williams who has been named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23rd-29th. Williams earned his team-leading eighth win of the season after throwing a complete game shutout on the road in a 2-0 win over Washington State. He walked none and struck out four on 101 pitches, including 78 strikes, and gave up no runs on seven hits in his second complete game of the year. He has not walked a batter in 25 consecutive innings dating back to April 6th against Oregon State and also pitched a complete game shutout with no walks in a 4-0 win over USC on April 14th. Williams has thrown 11 2/3 scoreless innings in three career appearances against the Cougars. Sun Devil Baseball returns to Packard Stadium to host Utah for a three-game Pac-12 series Friday-Sunday. All three games will be broadcast live by Sun Devil Sports Network on The Fan AM 1060 and will also be webcast by FoxSportsArizona.com. The games on Friday and Saturday are slated for a 6:30 p.m. start, while Sunday’s contest will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The fourth-ranked Sun Devil Women’s Golf team earned the No. 2 seed in the East Region, the NCAA announced Monday. The Sun Devils will compete for an NCAA-record 21st-consecutive bid to the National Championships. The NCAA East Regional will be held at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa., May 10th-12th. The Sun Devils will join top-seed Alabama and third-seed Duke among the 24 teams competing in the region. The top eight teams and two individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., May 22th-25th.

Sun Devil Track & Field recorded a sweep down in Tucson as the team rolled in the annual ASU-UA-NAU Double Dual, defeating both Arizona and Northern Arizona on the men’s and women’s sides. Both the men and women took down their in-state opponents with the No. 3 Arizona State men defeating Arizona, 110-86 and Northern Arizona 114-66 while the No. 10 women’s scored a victory over the Wildcats, 101-96, and the Lumberjacks, 136-56.  It was the second consecutive sweep for the Sun Devils over the in-state rivals after doing the same in Tempe in 2011.

Alicia Brightwell scored seven goals and the No. 5 Sun Devil Water Polo team held off No. 8 San Diego State in the fifth-place game at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. The Sun Devils will now await a potential at-large berth to the NCAA Water Polo Championships, set to take place in San Diego, Calif., May 11th-13th.
