ASU Baseball Drops 2nd Game of Double Header Showdown with Number 9 UCLA

The 14th-ranked Sun Devil Baseball team dropped the second game of its doubleheader against No. 9 UCLA, 4-2, on Sunday night. The Sun Devils return to Tempe to face UNLV on Wednesday, March 21, at Packard Stadium, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. The Sun Devils host California for a three-game series on March 23rd through March 25th, with Friday and Saturday’s games slated for 6:30 p.m., and Sunday’s at 12:30 p.m. Don’t miss the return of “Dugout Chatter with Tim Esmay” as Sun Devil Baseball is once again partnering with KDUS 1060 Am The Fan for the station’s weekly radio show. “Dugout Chatter with Tim Esmay,” is set to run every Wednesday for 10 weeks, beginning March 21st and ending May 23rd, from 6-6:30 p.m.

Sun Devil Softball went 3-1 over the weekend at the Judy Garman Classic, with a rainout in game five against Notre Dame on Saturday. Over the weekend Hillary Bach notched two wins to tie All-American Erica Beach for third all-time in career wins, with 79. This week Sun Devil Softball opens Pac-12 action when it hosts Arizona in the State Farm Territorial Cup series starting Friday, March 23rd. All three games of the series will be broadcast online, free, bywww.foxsportsarizona.com.

Sun Devil Gymnastics finished in fourth-place in a quad meet to Minnesota, Denver and Iowa with a score of 194.225, on Saturday March 17th. Sophomore Samantha Seaman recorded three scores of 9.8-plus and freshman Brianna Gades scored a career-high 9.850 on floor. The Sun Devils head to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete at the Pac-12 women’s gymnastics Championships on Mar. 24th.

With its best finish in seven years, the Arizona State women’s swimming and diving program took 12th place at the 2012 NCAA Championships with a total of 123 points, Saturday, in Auburn, Ala. This is the best finish for the Sun Devils since the team placed 12th at the NCAA Championships in 2005. A total of eight athletes earned 20 All-America honors, including six first-team All-Americans and 10 first-team honors.

Track and Field opened the 2012 outdoor season at home on Saturday. Christabel Nettey is second in the nation with a new personal record in the long jump of 6.58m (21-7.25) – good for second in Sun Devil history. The Sun Devils saw events wins from Shelby Houlihan (800m) and Keia Pinnick (400m hurdles).  The Sun Devil Men’s 4×400 relay clocked the second fastest time in the country at 3:05.29.

Sun Devil Water Polo will take part in its second doubleheader in three days on Tuesday, March 20th, as the women will take on Princeton and Asuza-Pacific in Walnut, Calif.   The Sun Devils are coming off a weekend where the team went 2-1 after dropping a tough match to No. 1 UCLA on Saturday before routing Pomona-Pitzer and Iona on Sunday.  The Sun Devils are now 18-3 on the season and 2-1 in MPSF play.
