It’s another great week to be a Sun Devil! On Monday, April 16th, Sun Devil Athletics announced the “30 Days of Sun Devil Football Promotion” which offers great prizes for fans that renew or purchase new season tickets. Prizes include a trip for four to Missouri with the Sun Devil Football team, lunch with Head Coach Todd Graham or the chance to lead the team out of Tillman Tunnel before a home game. Head Coach Todd Graham and Sun Devil Football wrap-up spring practice this week. All practices are open to the public, but in case you are not able to attend, we are offering a webcast following each practice. Links to the webcasts for each day are provided below. The Sun Devils will conclude the spring session this Saturday at 1 PM in the Spring Game. The Spring Game will be held in Sun Devil Stadium and is FREE to the public.
After sweeping the USC Trojans over the weekend, Sun Devil Baseball in conjunction with the Cory Hahn Foundation is hosting a “Pass The Bucket Night” on Tuesday, April 17th at Packard Stadium to help raise money and awareness for Cory and his family. First pitch for the game against the Arizona Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m. Volunteers, wearing gray Sun Devil Baseball jerseys, will be stationed at every section and will be passing around the donation buckets from the third inning until the end of the game. This is the first of two “Pass The Bucket Nights,” with the second one coming on May 16th against Arizona at Packard Stadium.
Your 2011 defending National Champion Sun Devil Softball team returns to Farrington Stadium to host the Stanford Cardinal on Friday April 20th – Sunday, April 22nd. Friday’s 7 p.m. game is Sun Devil Softball’s gold game so show your Sun Devil pride and wear gold!
Don’t forget to vote for a member for the Sun Devil family! Sun Devil Softball Senior Katelyn Boyd has been chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The Sun Devil Track and Field team wrapped up its 2012 home slate on Saturday, hosting squads from LSU, Arkansas and San Diego State that produced some big results at Sun Angel Stadium. Junior Jordan Clarke took home the men’s shot put competition with a season’s best throw of 19.66m (64-06). The mark is tentatively the top mark in the nation in 2012. Sophomore Anna Jelmini had a seasonal best throw of 17.15m (56-03.25) to take home the victory in the shot put competition while also taking home the victory in the discus throw with a season’s best mark of 58.14m (190-9) for the second-best throw in the nation in 2012. The Sun Devils will return to action next weekend at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., set to begin April 19th at the Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The #5 water polo team set the school record for wins on Saturday, closing out the 2012 regular season with wins at home against MPSF rival #16 Hawai’i (11-6) and #17 Cal Baptist (12-4). Arizona State finished the regular season with an overall record of 23-5, the best in school history while also padding their school goals record with 345.
Your Sun Devil Tennis team defeated the Colorado Buffaloes Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils saw standout performances from freshman Leighann Sahagun and Joanna Smith, as well as strong play from senior Michelle Brycki. The Sun Devils will round out the regular season in Tuscon where they will face the Arizona Wildcats as a part of the State Farm Territorial Cup on Friday afternoon.
