Sun Devil Basketball begins this week! Both the men and women’s teams will open up their 2011-12 campaigns on Friday. The women begin the day taking on UC Riverside at noon. The men’s team follows at 2:30 pm in a matchup against Montana State. Come out and support your 2011-12 Sun Devils!
Led by 2011 All-Pac-10 honoree Trent Lockett, men’s basketball will play in Wells Fargo Arena 19 times this season. The team spoiled Grand Canyon University’s arena opener in an exhibition last week, defeating the Antelopes 89-69. After their regular-season opener against Montana State, the Sun Devils will host Pepperdine next Tuesday at 6:30 pm. New Mexico comes to town on Friday November 18 for James Harden Beard Night. Women’s basketball is coming off a 66-35 win over NAIA National Champion Azusa Pacific. Freshman Promise Amukamara led the Sun Devils with 14 points. After hosting UC Riverside, the team will play at Colorado State on November 13 and will return to Tempe on November 20 in a matchup against Boston College.
Along with basketball, you can also catch volleyball, wrestling and swimming and diving this weekend in Tempe. Swimming and diving are hosting Pac-12 foes UCLA (Friday at 1 pm) and USC (Saturday at noon) this weekend. Volleyball has Pac-12 newcomers Colorado and Utah coming to town this weekend. Friday’s match against Colorado begins at 8 pm while the battle between the Sun Devils and the Utes starts at 7 pm on Saturday. On Sunday, Grand Canyon University and Embry-Riddle come to Wells Fargo Arena to compete against Sun Devil wrestling. The match begins at 2 pm.
Congrats to Sierra Cook of Sun Devil Soccer for earning Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors! Sierra helped lead her team to a 2-1 victory over Arizona and gave ASU their first point in the State Farm Territorial Cup Series.
Football heads to Pullman, Wash., this weekend. The game kicks off at 8:30 pm AZ Time and you can catch the game on Versus. The game time for our Territorial Cup game against Arizona has been announced for 7:30 pm on November 19. We are asking our fans to wear BLACK and Black Out Sun Devil Stadium for the game!
