It was a dark and rainy Sunday here in Tempe. Yes, the weather’s changing and the monsoons are upon us. This can only mean one thing, ASU football is just around the corner! The Sundevil football team is coming off one of there best seasons in recent history this past year and are gearing up to take the ball even further this time around. The team has most of their starting line up coming back from last year including senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter, senior running back Keegan Herring, and junior wide receiver Chris McGaha. ASU also has there top defensive end, Dexter Davis, coming back in his junior year.Last year Dexter threw up 10.5 sacks which tied for third most sacks in the Pac-10 conference. He has also been named a preseason second-team All-Pac-10 member by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview. I actually ran into Dexter and fellow teammate Richard Tuitu’u yesterday while picking up some jerseys at the Tempe Marketplace and had a chance to chat for a moment with the two about the outlook for the upcoming season.

Said Richard (Junior Offensive Tackle from Highland High), “I think our biggest strength this season has got to be team unity.” He went on to explain how the players are all good friends and have really come together this season and are committed to the goal of success. That success is obviously a national championship which is quite possible this year granted the team can hold up to some very stiff competition in an ever tough Pacific 10 Conference this year. Richard also half joked about how one of there biggest strengths this year is going to be “Double D,” referring to his close teammate Dexter Davis. We may have enjoyed a good chuckle out of it, but I believe there’s a lot of truth to his statement. With Dexter leading the pack on a very talented defensive squad, ASU is certain to knock some heads around on opposing offensive teams.

The schedule for the upcoming season for the ASU football team is as follows: Aug. 30 Northern Arizona 7:00 pm (First Game!)

Sept. 6 Stanford 7:00 pm There will be more to come shortly on the upcoming football season. Look for some excellent inside information gathered up by our team of ASU sports professionals in regards to this years squad and how they’re going to fare in each of there games this season. Finally, I’d like to give a call to the ASU student body and faculty to rally around our team this year and cheer them on to a successful season. I Look forward to seeing everyone on August 30th. School will be in session, the books will be flying open, and the pads and helmets will be crack a’ lackin as the ASU sundevils take on the Lumberjacks of NAU. “Lets Go Devils!”

-Jkieth

It was a dark and rainy Sunday here in Tempe.
