The music was fading fast for, in my opinion, the best music store in the history of the planet. Hoodlums, the well known ASU music store, previously located in the basement of ASU’s Memorial Union, has been closed for business since the November fires. Fortunately, the beat’s coming back and the owners, Steve and Kristian, are currently trying to lock down an optimal location here in Tempe hopefully within close proximity of the ASU campus.

I’ve been a Hoodlums junky since my very first semester back in the fall of 2003 and I’ve never had a better music buying experience than those I’ve had at Hoodlums. The workers are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and the selection is unparalleled by any other competitor especially with there deep used music inventory. Unfortunately, much of that inventory was burned or ruined in the fires and the company has had to start over basically from scratch. With the huge “junky” population amongst ASU students however, I’m sure Hoodlums will be back in action and fulfilling the needs of ASU music lovers in no time at all. I’m not here to advertise the store, I am only writing because I know there are a lot of ASU students and faculty that are loyal Hoodlums shoppers. Hoodlums music store and other small businesses indigenous to the Tempe area are what make up the rich and splendid culture and history of Arizona State University and ASU student life. It is for this purpose I give the top five reasons Hoodlums is the “bomb diggity!”

1. Unmatched Inventory in all music genres. Whether it’s folk, rap, country, punk..etc, Hoodlums takes the cake.

2. Least Expensive Music in the Valley. $12 dollars for a new album on it’s release date(if you’re a junky)? That’s just ridiculous!

3. Friendly Staff. Every time I’ve gone in they’ve made sure I found exactly what I was looking for.

4. Staff Music Knowledge is Exceptional. I’ve never left the store without receiving some insightful tidbit about a certain album or suggestions on different bands to try based on the genre I was looking for.

5. Simply, They Serve Sundevils. The most important factor is that they are here at ASU, the best University on the planet.

I for one am excited to here more information in regards to the new location and when we can expect to start moseying into Hoodlums again. For anyone that is interested I’m putting the link to the Hoodlums website at the bottom of this post so you can keep up with the latest on the new store. Rock on Devils! Only 64 more days till ASU football!
